EXPERIENCE:
|
I founded Grammar Goddess Communication almost 25 years ago to help business professionals strengthen their American grammar, business writing, and interpersonal skills (including DiSC) with three-hour "Brush Up on Your Skills" corporate workshops. While I still work for some longtime clients that way, a few years ago I began offering editing services for any type of written nonfiction material, including annual reports, books, blog posts, web content, or even résumés in response to requests for this type of help. Many otherwise very smart writers have lost track of the American grammar fundamentals, and their work isn't being seen in the best light. Let's face it: Most of us took our last grammar classes when we were too young to care, when we couldn't have imagined actually needing to know how to use "its" and "it's" correctly. But as business pros, we DO need to know this, or we need to find someone to help us---preferably not the friend or relative who majored in English. That's not necessarily the same as majoring in grammar and writing! (I know a lot about using commas and semicolons; I know next to nothing about Chaucer.) My clients range from bloggers to best-selling authors, ghostwriters, and political columnists who write regularly for CNBC, Huffington Post, Inc., Entrepreneur, and regional magazines. Most are American, although I do have a few international clients whose English is, of course, always a different version than mine, which keeps me on my toes. My clients appreciate that I honor their "voice," while making sure their writing and ideas shine. My goal is to help everyone look and sound as smart as they are. |
How I Got Started In The Training Business
How did I get started in the training business? Partly pure dumb luck and partly three total strangers who helped me become the Grammar Goddess.
It was 1994. I was unemployed (for the first time ever), looking in the Sunday want ads, and I noticed a really big ad from an international seminar company looking to hire the best and brightest speakers to lead seminars around the country. Paid speaking work. Auditions would be held in two weeks, and applicants were told to prepare an eight-minute business-oriented presentation. And we would be taped. |
Why Do I Teach American Grammar?
Why do I teach American grammar to grownups? To business professionals? As my mother constantly asked, “Didn’t everyone learn it in school?” Well, first of all, no. We didn’t all learn it in school, and there are several reasons for that. Yes, the teachers tried, but there’s a huge difference between being taught and actually learning.

Colons, Commas, and Dashes
A FREE booklet on American punctuation and usage! I hope you find it helpful as a reminder of some of the basics in this particular system, even if the system you follow is not the American one. I have included as many examples as I could to show you how to use some of the rules that you may have forgotten about over time.

– Susan Rooks -
There is an old saying that goes something like, "you never get a second chance at a first impression." That might be somewhat hackneyed in today's marketplace; however, it still holds true. Regardless of the product being offered for sale, regardless of the price, regardless of the value, if your presentation is not grammatically correct and presented in a framework of professionalism and authority, your efforts shall be in vain. Susan Rooks (the Grammar Goddess) is an investment in your future. Sending out documents or proposals without her keen and knowledgeable expertise is a professional error. Once you engage Susan on your team, you will never look back. A great investment in a great professional!

I might be a writer, but I am far from perfect. After noticing errors in my published posts that I initially thought were perfect, I decided to invest in a second pair of eyes. Hiring Susan to tidy up my articles and deliver extra polish was the best decision I ever made.
No more "its" when I meant to say "it's," and no more missing words in my sentences when my fingers type quicker than my head thinks. I don't trust spellcheck or Grammarly, but I would trust Susan with anything; she is my safe pair of hands.
Since hiring Susan, I now feel confident that all my work is professionally presented, and my only concern is that she is not able to edit this review.
If you are looking for professional editing services, look no further than Susan Rooks. It will be the best decision you ever make.

Susan Rooks is truly The Grammar Goddess! She lives up to the name 100% of the time. I've been using her services now for two years and the experience has been wonderful. She edits all of my articles for Inc. Magazine and The Huffington Post. She finds the errors that the grammar-checking software and spellcheck miss. In doing so, she has saved me from more embarrassing grammar goofs than I care to remember. Not only does she make your writing perfect, she is fast with her turnarounds and is truly a pleasure to work with.
