QUESTION EVERYTHINGHow Does Voice Search Lead to Sales?-by Darrin Fitzgerald - Artie Media
In case you have no idea what "Voice Search" is, let's start there.
Voice Search means using your voice on any one of these devices to perform a search or ask a question. This image comes from a wonderful Moz article written by Purna Virji on the subject. Purna writes about who's using voice search, adoption rates, the difference between typing in a search and using natural language in voice search. She also offers a few thoughts on how your business might prepare for voice search. I'm going to show you a very specific way to capitalize on voice search. |
First, as a video producer and video marketing strategist, I am honestly a bit giddy when it comes to talking about voice search. The main reason is adoption, and there are a number of reasons why voice search is going to quickly become the norm.
- Microsoft's personal assistant, Cortana is live in mobile devices and is helping users perform voice searches on the desktop in Windows 10.
- Alexa is also answering questions on Amazon's Echo.
- Google's browser microphone icon and the "Okay Google..." enable voice search both in mobile devices and on the desktop.
- Apple has opened up Siri to developers which is going to spur a good deal more Siri app integration in the iOS.
- Siri is now integrated into the macOS, which is going to increase voice search adoption mightily. And why wouldn't it. We already talk to our phones in public. Why wouldn't we talk to our computers at home?
- And of course there are a growing number of voice integrations in Home Control platforms and home entertainment devices like AppleTV.
Ultimately, I'm most excited for my clients because there's an incredible opportunity to perfectly position them to take advantage of voice search in the next 6 to 18 months.
In fact, in anticipation of voice search adoption, I started building my own proof of concept over four years ago. Here's why. Voice search makes a Video Frequently Asked Question Series the perfect inbound marketing tool for any business that consistently answers the same questions over and over again. |
To give you a bit of background, the impetus for championing the Video FAQ Series came from Google's Hummingbird release in 2013. In short, Hummingbird's intent was to refine the algorithm's ability to understand language in context and to provide the searcher a more "human" and useful search result.
Flash forward to today, where more and more folks are using voice search and in effect speaking to their computers and mobile devices in natural language. The implication is that the more Google, Cortana, or Siri's on-device algorithms are processing these natural language voice searches, the better and more human the search results are going to become.
So, if you are answering questions with a Video FAQ Series and properly search engine optimizing your videos and their individual landing pages, you or your clients are going to be way ahead of the curve -not to mention crushing the competition in voice search results.
Prospects do research to learn more and to get their questions answered. Any unanswered question represents doubt in your prospect's mind. Answering the question removes doubt
and clears the path to your next sale. Imagine your prospects arriving at your point of conversion -"Add to Cart" or "Contact Us"- with all their questions answered. This is exactly where you want your prospects to be, physically, digitally and emotionally, ready to buy or contact you.
It doesn't matter whether you are selling a product or providing a service, your prospects have questions. And every business answers these questions every day. Understand this, voice search makes the questions you answer every day, the most valuable marketing asset you possess.
Simply put, any thoughtfully executed and strategically implemented Video FAQ Series is going to start paying off in the next 12 to 18 months -with very little competition.
